Backpack
The backpack is the crucial load-bearing system with which to carry all your third-line gear.
The more self-contained your travel system is, the faster and more mobile you are. It is much easier to hump a single heavy ruck than to carry an array of dangling shoulder bags and luggage. With a high-capacity ruck, smaller bags can be packed inside or MALICE clipped on the side. One pack to pack them all and in the compression straps bind them.
Balancing Your Load
Be careful how much you try to carry. Keep heavier gear at the bottom of the load. Keep items you'll need first in readily available spots.
Practicing Carrying Your Load
Be sure to try fully loading your pack and marching long distances. You will usually find that what seems light at first becomes exhausting over the long haul and the importance of packing the lightest load possible becomes evident. You may also discover things you wish you had brought and ways you could pack your gear more accessibly.
MOLLE Expandable Webbing
