Basic Training

B.A.S.I.C.: Basic Active Skills Instruction Courseware

Basic Training prepares you as a general doer or activist by introducing you to a broad spectrum of ideas, skills and tools.

It can be thought of like a first-year post-secondary program, though it can be completed quickly.

Basic Curriculum

Basic introduces you to a full range of skillsets. It doesn't go into elaborate detail, but it does provide a useful grounding in some core skills that every activist should have.

For example, not everyone needs to be a COMSEC Specialist, but all activists who complete Basic will learn to apply the fundamentals of COMSEC self-defense such as anonymity, encryption, autoupdating, antivirus & antispyware.

You'll learn what everyone should know in Basic, and you'll learn how to learn everything else you might need to know. You'll know where to look to learn everything else.

Profiling

  • Profiling your own capabilities is the starting point to identify your interests and goals.
  • As you learn, you can add skills to your profile for learning. As you master them, you can attach all the documents of your learning process and any tests you take until you are qualified and can add the new skill to your skillset.

DOSPEC Tech Skills

  • Supplying all the operating kit you need for all your capabilities

COMMS Skills

Learning how to communicate effectively with friends and associates is essential to coordinating any kind of sustained efforts.

Memetics Skills

BASIC will teach how memetics works.

Media Skills

Everyone who completes Basic will have learned how to use many of the available mediums.

Having used them once, it will be easier for them to tap the appropriate channels in the future. Most people have never written a letter to an official or recorded a podcast. Everyone who completes Basic will.

You can identify which mediums are most interesting to you in terms of what skills you already have and what skills are most useful to learn. For example, if you are highly computer savvy you might focus on Net Media, and a socially active person might concentrate on Word of Mouth methods and Organizing events.

Critical Thinking Skills

"My personal feeling is that citizens of the democratic societies should undertake a course of intellectual self-defense to protect themselves from manipulation and control, and to lay the basis for more meaningful democracy...

[Intellectual self-defense] means you have to develop an independent mind - and work on it. Now that's extremely hard to do alone. The beauty of our system is that it isolates everybody - each person is sitting alone in front of the tube. Now it's very hard to have ideas or thoughts under those circumstances. Some people can, but it's pretty rare. The way to do it is through organization. So courses of intellectual self-defense will have to be in the context of political and other organization...

There are also many techniques for penetrating the veil of propaganda that should become second nature in dealing with the output of doctrinal institutions (media, journals of opinion, scholarship). For example, it is quite common for the basic framework of an article or news report to be hopelessly misleading, conforming to doctrinal requirements. But within it one can often discover hints that something else is going on."

—Noam Chomsky, "Necessary Illusions; Thought Control in Democratic Societies"

Activist History

Students will learn how activism has shaped human history as far back as primate society, where primates evolved the ability to compete for status by being of service. The story will follow an Edmund Burkian Connections-like narrative flow that answers a series of intriguing "how did an obscure cause lead to an important effect?" questions.

Basic Training Varies

There are varying methods of preparation to complete BASIC. Courses will evolve over time to provide improved learning methods and projects.

Basic Test

A unified battery of tests will serve as the lowest common denominator amongst all BASIC graduates.

Real World Work Experience & Testing

A real-world activist experience is the ultimate training method. You could enroll in Basic and fullfill your training experience requirements anywhere you choose or enroll with a specific school, class and instructor.

Esprit de Corps

Basic training prepares you to operate as a general activist, much like the general infantry or G.I.s..

Basic training instills competency with core skills and familiarity with the wider spectrum of advanced skills.

After Basic, you will probably choose to pursue Advanced Training to focus on specifc Careers and Skills.

Physical Training

Basic Test

Simulating Game Training

Whereas America's Army simulates the experience of qualifying with activist skills, a Sim Empowerment expereince can actually constitute a certified activist training qualification. You are not just playing a dress rehearsal of what training would be like, you are doing the training.

Sim Testing

Some tests will occur in simulation.
