Our
Bivanorak is a bivy bag, a sleeping bag cover, emergency shelter and
ordinary rainwear, all in one. And it weighs less than any one of these
items alone! The Bivanorak was originally developed as a survival
garment for Swedish air force pilots, but its superb versatility also
make it indispensable for outdoor activities like climbing, hiking,
hunting, fishing or paddling.
For bivy bag/sleeping bag cover use, the Bivanorak is cut long and wide
enough to accommodate both a sleeping bag and pad. The draw cord at the
lower hem cinches down to seal the warmth in and the rain out, and a
long front zipper makes it easy to get in and out. The large hood is
also big enough to accommodate the hood of your sleeping bag and still
be cinched tightly around your face. For bivy use, we recommend using
the Bivanorak in conjunction with a Tarp, since it has openings at the
hood, sleeves and hem.
To
use it as an anorak, simply pull the bottom hem up inside the body of
the Bivanorak and tighten the draw cord around your waist. There is
even enough room to carry a small backpack underneath! Pair it with
rain pants or chaps and you have superb wet weather protection.
The
Bivanorak’s breathable, polyurethane coating is fully water and
wind-proof, and its seams are taped. As a result the Bivanorak makes an
outstanding emergency shelter. Simply pull it out of your pack, climb
in, and wait out the storm.
Backpacker Magazine, USA’s leading
outdoor publication, named the Bivanorak “Best Bivy” in the August,
2003 test of multi-functional products.
