Sleeping Awake

The contrast between sleeping and dreaming and waking and doing is one made by many philosophers, and I think it is a very powerful analogy.  It is I think especially useful to the Empowerment.  Those who are empowered are awake those who are apathetic are merely dreaming.

If Christ had been dismembered like William Wallace, would the resurrection take longer?

Surfacing after a bit of emotional turmoil.

I've missed this place.

Really.

Hoping for not another false starter.

Splinter in Your Mind- An Introduction

(related to The Gap idea)

(needs more content, actual 'question' at the end is inaccurate)

“Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. Like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.”

—Morpheus, The Matrix

You are looking for an answer to a question you cannot quite fathom. It is a problem that is starting to influence the way you see the world, your habits, your work, and your life. Perhaps it is something that has plagued you since before you could remember. You may even have a name for it:

  • Disillusionment.
  • Angst.
  • Existential crisis.
  • Mid-life crisis.
  • Disenchantment.

Whatever you call it, it is troubling you, and it will not go away. You might have been tempted to push it away, to drown it out and ignore it so that you may get on with your day, so that you may meet your quota, so that you may live your life. But you have made it this far; so let us assume that you have not ignored this splinter in your mind.

Let us instead tell you why you are here. You are here because you know that the world is not meant to be this way. You look around and you see immorality, deceit, lies, injustice, tampering, laziness, sin, godlessness, vice, corruption, consumption, whatever. The world you see is wrong, it is skewed, it does not fit what you think the world should be. But you have accepted it because you keep expecting it to get better, you keep expecting to wake up, you expect everyone to wake up and really, truly see what is happening in this world.

The truth is that you are awake, but you cannot make sense of what you see. You are no longer dreaming, perhaps you never were. You no longer see the world as it is being presented, you do not see the same thing everyone else sees. You are looking beyond the white-picket fences, beyond what has been put in front of us day after day. You are looking beyond how we are told to look at the world to how the world truly is, and it is flawed.

The question is, “Why is the world like this, and what can I do to change it?”

Return of the Long Lost Philosophy Student

Well, that was fun.

Been forever since I've done anything of any use here, but I've come to realize, through my own studies and sluggish streams of consciousness, that if I had to create a philosophy for everyone to follow it would probably look a lot like this. I had been thinking of devoting a bit of my time to this project, not that I have the time, but I have the itch every once and a while to do something creative and get my head out of the box. To do something worth while (aside from furthering my own education and enjoying the occasional all-you-can-eat sushi binge) is really the point of it all anyway, isn't it?

So, best get cracking. See you all on the flip side I suppose.
