Business Clothing

"Good appearance commands respect."

—Sir Robin Peel

Business dress uniform is the true urban camoflage B.D.U.. Putting on a suit is an instant credibility boost.

Wearing modern business attire allows you to blend into elite environments. Be among them, but not of them. If you can operate on an elite level, you won’t feel outranked or outclassed. Don’t let their uniforms and culture intimidate you. Anyone can wear a suit and observe basic etiquette.

Where To Wear

In some settings, business attire is appropriate or required:

  • Fancy parties and restaurants:
  • Media Appearances: sometimes cameras will surprise you and it never hurts to be dressed right.
  • At Work: Many workplaces don't require suits but they help.
  • Meeting Officials: Remember, they work for you.
  • Courtrooms: Dressing well shows respect for the court.
  • Job Interviews: Dress to impress and get the job you want.

Don't Sell Out

"You're not selling out by putting on a suit. You're selling out if you do it for the wrong reasons."

—Sean Kennedy

There's no shame in wearing conservative clothing to blend into elite circles so long as you remember what you're there to accomplish. You might learn a thing or two about their world, but you don't have to change who you are inside or blindly believe in the system in order to make use of it.

Buying Business Clothing

Profile Your Measurements

Find your exact measurements and add them to your profile. You can do this with a piece of measuring tape or have a Men’s Warehouse clerk do it for you.

Men’s Warehouse Suits

Men’s Warehouse is a popular place to get a suit. PRICE: $200

Thrift Store Suits

You can find amazing bargains at thrift stores if you have the time or luck to find something good. PRICE: $5

Hygiene

Make sure that you do not smell badly and remember to chew some gum before meetings, but not during.

Earrings & piercings: Both earrings and visible body piercings should be taken out on the day of the interview.

First-Line Hygiene Kit

Pocket Mirror is essential grooming 1st-line carry for spot checks, tying ties, etc., and also useful for survival signaling.

Suit Maintenance & Carefulness

Caring for business dress is important. You must take care to maintain your suits and dress clothes. Daily life is filled with many messy hazards that can damage your clothes. Beware of anything that might rub off onto your suit. Eat methodically over a plate with tablecloth deployed to protect your garments from spillage.

Garment Bags (Third-Line)

Storing and transporting a suit in a garment bag is the only way to protect it from dirt and damage. Most garment bags are soft and can be hung from the inside of a car, but some larger soft luggage like the rolling carry-all recommended in the 3rd Line Gear section have space to secure your garment bag on the inside of the bag with hard support.

Shoe Polishing

Keep your shoes and boots highly polished and waterproofed and they will last longer and look better.

Shoe Bag

A shoe bag is a compression sack that keeps shoes from dirtying other bag contents.
