Groups: Empowerment Comics

Learn all about starting fire, an essential part of survival skills training.

Here's my first stab at an Empowerment comic.

What do you think? Is the poo in the first panel too graphic?

So far, it tests well with 14-year olds and not so well with my Mom.

The basic idea is to do comics that make you laugh and learn at the same time on at least a weekly basis. Comics should relate to some kind of learnable material, preferably with a specific link to the relavent learning URL included on the bottom of the comic. The comics will be added to the relavent pages themselves to liven up what is otherwise very serious subject matter.

This is of course meant to illustrate the www.empowerthyself.com/fire article.

The words are an actual quote from hagcel on gnn.tv in a discussion of guerilla camping methods.

The first thing I thought of when I read it was an unhygenic Gollum lighting a fire with his eyes.

other fire starting tips

while i have started many a camp fire, I have never used toilet paper to do so and have always relied on dried grass and wood matches, but I have had my share of pyro activities using one very versitile substance you might also find in your bathroom. Isopropyl rubbing alchohol, more commonly known as just rubbing alchohol used widely as a dissinfectant it is very potent., wether60, 70, 91, or 99% purity, they all burn very well, with the exception of the two former, they can simply be poured on the ground and lit to create a nice hot blue purple flame, when you are using less than 80% you need to resort to what I call Wicking, siply take a tissue, sock, sponge, TP donut, crumpled paper, Homework, best friend, ect. and thoroughly soak it in the said alchohol, apply flame for several seconds and watch it spread, the amount of alchohol needed to completely soak it will be enough for several minutes of hot fire, more than enough to start a campfire with the help of several twigs.

While rubbing alcohol is a

While rubbing alcohol is a good idea, I have two objections: One, it makes us get kicked out of elementary schools at night (readers: I promise it was not as bad as it sounds!) Two, who carries rubbing alcohol with them in the woods? You're just a lot more prepared than I.
