How to Setup Your Wireless Router

Settings: 

• Open Access: DHCP enabled, No WEP, WPA, MAC filtering.
• Port Forwarding: Bittorrent port forwarding should be available to be set to whoever is using it most.
  

LinkSys Router Setup Instructions

1. Login to the router at http://192.168.1.1 (it probably still has default login/passwords of admin/admin.)
   
2. Name the Router. The URL has to be 32 characters or less.
   
1. Set Router Name to the URL of your page like "empowerthyself.com/net/pescadrome"
2. Set Wireless Network Name  (SSID) (http://192.168.1.1/wireless.htm) to URL of your page
3. Change the Router's admin password to something other than the default "admin". Write it in a secure place.
4. Disable wireless security (http://192.168.1.1/WSecurity.htm)
   
5. Disable wireless MAC filtering (http://192.168.1.1/WFilter.htm)

• Bandwidth usage monitoring and rate limiting would be cool to prevent tragedies of the commons. 
• An Empowernet start page that could also be useful for kiosk computers in labs and generally changing computer start pages inthe field
