There are a number of facebook apps that are relevant as examples or competition. We want to emulate the best facebook apps and carve out a definitive lead by defining new application categories. There are apps that do some things similar to what we will do, but none that approach our vision, and there are apps that show how facebook can be used well, but none that will compare to ours.

CNET MyTech

Uses CNET's own CNET Shopping affiliate program which pays $0.30 per lead. A use case says CNET's program works:

My Gadgets

Track what gadgets you own and share with friends. No shopping integrated.

My Shopping

Based on shopping.com, which pools stores like Amazon (finding most of the same things we can through them directly). Shopping.com has a partner affiliate program of their own but it is based on much less than a dollar per click not on sales so it is probably inferior to actually providing people things. Still they have a robust API and are worth keeping in mind.

Earn Cash - Add a suggestion list to your profile simply by rating or marking items. Refer your friends to products and earn cash when they shop.

Collaborative Recommendations - Recommendations based on what you want and what your friends think of similiar products.

Bargains and Coupons - Discounts and deals from merchant stores.

Lets you send gifts themed as sound gear. I thought it might be real gear like Toolpedia will handle, but it is just frivolous icons. Glad to know nobody has thought of our approach yet.

The funniest task suggestion was: Catholic Immaculate Conception! I thought this might involve trying to conceive a second messiah child with God. Just put it on your list and GTD! But upon clicking it was just a celebration: The Immaculate Conception Mass is the celebration of the conception of Mary, the mother of Jesus without any stain of original sin, in her mother's womb. 

I tested it and assigned a task to Pugsley to see how the invitation works.
