Fly traps keep the number of flies down indoors. This can be important with kitchens where a lot of food moves in and out.

Flies disturb creative concentration, keep people trying to sleep awake and spread unsanitary germs.

There are several kinds of fly traps ranging from light traps to fly paper.

DIY Homemade Fly Trap

2 cups water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup vinegar

Mix ingredients and pour into a fruit jar. Punch holes in the lid large enough so that flies can get inside. Set outside away from the kitchen door. It will draw flies away from the door.

a similar item works on cockroaches too. but you have to use a bigger jar and if you use glass the cockroaches won't be able to climb out when they get wet, so you don't need a lid.
