Carried Food

Carried food can sustain your energy, health and morale for as long as you need to go between served meals.

How much food you carry depends on how long you might need to "eat out".

Always carry slightly more than you expect to need just in case.

Carried food should be room temperature safe and require little or no prep to eat, unlike stored food which may require refridgeration and kitchen facilities.

Food Pouches

Food pouches are the most satisfying food to eat in the field when you have a moment to stop and eat something substantial.

Tasty Bite Pouches $2

"Nonperishable food that tastes better than MREs - the Indian meals from "Tasty Bite" are a big, big part of my household's planning. They're good enough to replace most order-in meals. Also, you can order caseloads of them online."

MRE Entree Pouches $3

Pouch sealed meals are a breakthrough in carried food. Three special layers allow the food to be sealed and then cooked inside and never exposed to the air again. Thus, the food is sterilized in the pouch and then blocked from future contamination.

 MRE Heater Pouches $1

MRE Heaters are chemically activated by water. Place entree pouch in a heater bag, add water and in 10-15 minutes you have a hot meal. Sure food pouches are edible cold, but hot meals are good for morale.

Coast Guard Rations

Coast Guard Rations are the most compact form of food you can carry. They are dry and crumbly nutrient cakes that taste somewhat lemony. Not fun to eat, but compact and nourishing in an emergency.

Running Out Of Food

Running out of food in the wilderness isn't the end of the world if you can make use of Foraging, Fishing or Hunting skills.

Dried Food Pouches

Dried meals are lighter weight than moist food pouches.
