For Young People

Youth is an empowering time spent learning about new ideas from parents, school, peers, media, books, movies and inner reflection. Young people have an opportunity to make the most of this time, to design their thoughts like a sculpture, and to choose what kind of adult they want to become.

Enlisting Parental Support

Your parents are legally and morally responsible for your well-being, and it's a good idea to enlist their support for your important lifestyle decisions whenever possible. Empowerment is one of those decisions that you may want to talk to them about.

Explaining Empowerment To Your Parents

You may find that your parents are impressed by your reasons for being empowered and that not only do they support your decision but they want to empower themselves too.

Respectfing Your Parents' Differences

Many young people have parents with ideas that are very different from their own. Dissaproving parental attitudes may seem old-fashioned and hard to understand for a young person who has grown up in a different generation with different influences, but parents above all love their children.

Parents may seem severely dismissive of some of your ideas. Choosing how to listen to them and how to define yourself as an individual is an important challenge to meet with equal parts love and integrity. It is an opportunity to strive for closeness by honoring your great connection to each other and respecting your diversity of opinion.
