Hack Sabbath
The Empowerment is pleased to announce the beta release of a new day of the week. Haven't we all wished there was an eighth 24 hour period to do all the cool things we've been saying we'll do "one of these days?" "That day" has arrived. Here it is, on a recurring weekly basis.
How is this possible? Well try as we might to burn candles at both ends or cheat sleep, there simply aren't any new hours to be had, but there are quite a lot hours sitting in the unemployment lines or working at jobs they hate to buy sh- Well you get the idea. So rather than conjure our own day out of whole cloth, we're doing what Christmas and Haloween did, hijack other peoples' days!
The day formerly known as Sunday now comes in a new flavor called Hack Sabbath! Christians and slackers have always observed Sunday as a special time for going to church or sleeping all day waiting for the alarm to command them back to work. Now switched-on folks have another reason to look forward to it.
Hack Sabbath is a gathering of creative people where you can do your own thing and hang out or collaborate with bright minds doing exciting things.
Everyone Can Hack: Hacking is about more than computers. Hacking means doing clever things in any arena from art to zeitgeist.
Free Play: Join people around the world for a Sunday of socializing, music, hacking, gaming, presenting, laptops, internet, activism, show-and-tell.
Global Sync: Hack Sabbath's Global Sync videoconferences Hack Sabbaths together so you can hang out and chat with kindred spirits from around the world.

We meet Sundays at 6:00PM. Our first global meetup was Sunday April 15th 5:00PM.

I'm an uninployed student, so I have vary little cash on hand. I think this puts me in a good spot for testing low budget gear. I plan to focis on diy/shoe string kits. This includes making a laptop from components, setting up a basic street kit for $20 and more allong the line. I have experince with copmuter building and modding, soddering, recycling tech, diy, and being poor in genral.

Hack Sabbath Rock Band School of Rock Glory!

Hack Sabbath Rock Band School of Rock Glory! I just composed an entire awesome song live using the Rock Band 360 controllers plugged into Reason on my Mac. I just bought Rock Band for $170 to do Hack Sabbath every weekly. I was tired of borrowing it and being iffy on promotions. Now I can promote the hell out of it consistently and 20-50 people a week is my target. And now I have the setup for performing Rock Band as a free style music system along with my full on keyboard and mic and sound interface. Hack Sabbath just became Rock Band + School of Rock. When I post a video how-to this will hit Digg.com and rack 30K unique easily.
Minor link dump

Posting here for the first time as a quick link dump to a couple of usefull pages on creation of hacker spaces. Most of it's pretty common-knowledge. Start it up, keep it legal, keep a level of security on everyone, don't let the purpose bleed..
The Hacker Foundation description and overview: http://www.hackerfoundation.org/wiki/index.php/Hacker_Spaces_Initiative
And a PDF slideshow on building your own: http://imakethings.com/Hacker-Space-Design-Patterns.pdf
From what Alex has said, it sounds like real world things are in the works, and perhaps aspects of hacker spaces can be implimented in them.
These links are easy to get off of google, but I hope they're some help.

New Hack Sabbath Logo Concept
a Branding material (something you can spread through mediums) posted by lxpk Sat, 2007-11-24 18:06Groups: Hack Sabbath Tags:
Here's a concept for a new hack sabbath logo incorporating some recent ideas I posted.
Top left: Hacking. An Apple Keyboard symbolizing coding and a Razer Lachesis mouse symbolizing design and gaming.
Top Right: Rocking. A real guitar with Guitar Hero buttons symbolizes both casual and actual rocking.
Bottom Left: Peacekeeping. Rose coming out of M4 carbine 6.5 Grendel with reflex sight and foregrip symbolizes nonviolence and self-defense.
Bottom Right: Building. Leatherman Charge Ti multitool symbolizes crafty making and survival preparednss.
This could make for some sweet T-shirts and there should probably be a more stylized black-and-white vector version made. What do you think?
Awesome T-shirt

I'm not going to Toorcon after all. Instead I'm going to be in a SWAT team of Handicapper General troops in a Kurt Vonnegut-based movie being shot in LA. To see what I'm missing I was looking at Toorcon-tagged pics on Flickr when I came across this awesome T-shirt:

which if combined with this shirt:
