Labeling
Labeling your tools and materials helps people tell they are yours and return them when you leave them out or lose them.
"PLEASE!!!!! Be sure to label everything important to you!!!!! Put a piece of tape on it with your name and our camp location. This REALLY pays off- you would be amazed how often a lost camera comes home to you when you do this. Last year, we returned two cameras to their owners who had the forethought to label it. The un-labeled one was taken to lost and found where it met an unknown fate." —Apokiliptika Dispatch
How To Make Quick Labels
You can label anything that tape sticks to quickly and easily without leaving permanent markings on the labeled tool.
- Equip Necessary Tools: scotch tape, fine-tipped sharpie permanent marker
- Decide exactly what information you want to label it with. Name and phone number are a minimum for ensuring returnability. An inventory node URL or title is even better.
- Stick one strip of tape down onto the tool long enough for your label.
- Write label text on the tape.
- Seal another strip of tape over the first to make the label ink waterproof. This works even on dishes and utensils.
Waterproof And Clothespinned Labels
If you have a fabric item that needs labeling, you can put a clothes pin through it and tape over the clothes pin to write at least your phone number on the label.
