What knife

A little poll about what you guys look for when buying or making knives

Erm.

I don't look for any of those things. Sharpness is important. But I look for a serated as well as a straight blade. I look for a folding knife for easy transport. And preferably one that's black (both blade and handle) and non reflective so that it can't be as easily spotted in the dark or draw attention from a distance.

But other people are probably different...

well we shal see

well this was all the things i thought people would look for iprefer mine not to fold after having a few (even locking blades) shut on me (my fingers)

Well

The thing is, what I described is a knife I have. And I've never caught my fingers in it. Not even once. And I'm not that coordinated.

I put down Metal Quality

I put down Metal Quality because I suppose that would contribute most to a few quality features.  The quality of the metal should determine how well it can be sharpened, how long it keeps an edge, the strength of the blade, etc.  Other features such as if it's a folder or not, length of the blade, serated or not, color, quick open, etc... that would all depend on what I need the knife for.  They all matter, but depending on what I'm going to be using it for, each of those features could be more or less important.

  Reliability.

Reliability.  Something that is not be break or chip under jobs it was not ment to serve as.

A good handle a leather man is usefull but try carving wood or cutting down a small shrub the handle digs into the flesh.  Leatherman more a urban knife/tool.

Some of the best knifes i had were under 10 bucks like the frost/mora knives.
Others like the k-bar was costly but worth it.

frosts of mora

frosts great knives i swear by them seing as you can pick them up so cheep now all u gotta do is make your own handle they r brill i stabed through a pain of toughened glass with mine
