World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft and other MMORPGS are perfect venues for finding people who are unempowered, and provide a large and diverse audience for your own ideas.
Casual Gamers Helping Addiced Gamers
People who are in the midst of a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) are more than likely not the most empowered individuals. Granted, some of them might just log in for a few hours a week to unwind and escape for a little while, and that's fine. The real audience are those people who do nothing else, who have foresaken their jobs and social lives so that they can get that next level, to buy that new mace, etc. Many of us have been there and done that, so this would be a great oppurtunity to use the skills and connections that we aleady have to do something positive with this medium and get more people to log off and go outside, watch a movie, read a book, and become empowered.
Large numbers is key. If you can reach a certain saturation point on a server, it is easy to make your mesage heard. All you have to do is start a Guild, find like-minded players (which may be hard, given you are trying to find people who are playing the game all the time to stop playing the game....by playing the game) and do a bit of virtual protesting. The antics of the Goon Squad guild on the Mal'Ganis server are proof enough of this. They have been able to disrupt gameplay by spamming the chat channels with messages like "All hail the Scarab Lord!" for a few minutes. Imagine if that instead read "Go outside, before it's too late!"
Spread the Word While Gaining XP
World of Warcraft provides a huge audience for your own message as well. Believe it or not there are guilds in WoW that cater specifially to people of a certain belief set or even religious background. If you would like to talk about your ideas and find like minded people, or spread you mesage to people while getting quests done, World of Warcraft already has all the tools you need to do so.
Create an Empower Thyself World of Warcraft Guild
a mission (something you can do) posted by KindelingBoy Thu, 2008-04-03 17:35Following my post about World of Warcraft as a potential medium, I thought I would take the next step and create an in game guild dedicated to helping addicted gamers brake free, go out in the world, and become empowered, as well as spreading the word about Empowerment in general.
The guild would consists largley of casual gamers who are activists, members of Empower Thyself, people interested in Empowerment and activism, past addicts, or gamers seeking to recover or become empowered.
The guild will be created in the Lightbringer server, once I have enough singatures on a guild charter. This will take some effort on my part to spread the word about why the guild is important and what it is all about. It may also get expensive as I may just have to bribe people to sign the charter just to get it started.
It will also be an oppurtunity to network with groups that are concerned about gaming addictions and like minded youth movements.
