So the ideal way to log this sort of thing is as comments
I'm going to add buttons to one's personal items labeled "log progress" for missions, "log experience" for skills, "log usage" for tools and so on. 43Things uses this kind of blog per goal metaphor to let you post things to each of your goals as you work towards it.
Also, any missions that one does using the required skills, tools, etc will be logged as part of this and will be worth both gold stars for the mission in general and skill stars for the skills used.
Recording progress is very important to constant improvement.
