Scoff at my liberal arts education if you will, but I'm a religious studies major because I truly love learning about different religions and their soci-cultural implications. Also, learining about religion is an excellent way to understand the world around you, regardless of your personal beliefs. Personally, I'm an agnostic Jew, but I know most of the world isn't, and its always fun to learn what makes people behave in certain ways.

I agree that learning about religion can be a great way to see its impacts in society and whatnot. I took an intro to religious studies class in the philosophy department, but was a bit disapointed because I wanted to study more of why religious exists and how it functions, more than just learning the basics of all the religions, which was more what happened. I think learning about the sociology of religion in the class I'm currently in will be interesting.
