Rezzing
Rezzing is the Second Life term for bringing an object from your inventory into existence. You can share media in Second Life just as you can in reality.
You can rezz all kinds of objects for people. A complete activist kit can duplicate your physical campaign package. Some campaigns will take place entirely in SL.
Things For Rezzing
- Shirting: Wear your favorite shirts or create your own with this guide.
- Postering abounds in SL. Create SL versions of your posters.
- Carding: people can read online or use notecards to link to web sites and the like.
- Publishing: You can create interactive books using kits created for authors like Lawrence Lessig to give out his Free culture. We'll document how this is done. This skill is fairly specialized so some dedicated SL book makers could act as virtual publishers to help many authors get ther books in-world.
- Organizing: You can hold events in SL. SL has its own dynamics for promoting, hosting and conducting events that will be documented.
Greeting People And Helping With Voice
When new people arrive at a Second Life location, they often need help
getting voice chat to work. It is probably best to assist them in the following
order:
- Setting up voice chat. This
is helpful even if the person has no microphone, because it allows you and
others to pass information onto them quickly and more effectively.
- Adjusting volumes for each
active speaker. The volumes of each individual microphone in use must be
adjusted, or else they may have to turn up their speakers just to hear
someone with a faint mic, while another’s mic might be far too loud.
- Avoiding echo feedback by
wearing headphones. This is a common problem, and though a pair of
headphones is the best way of fixing it, one can also simply turn off
their microphone when another is speaking so not to produce echo.
- To get voice up on ubuntu 7.10 and alsa, try 'apt-get isntall esound', then uncomment the alsa line in the second life script

To turn on voice.
Go to you menu a the top of screen
Select Edit
Select Preferences
Click the tab for voice
Make sure the small circle next to "Enable Voice Chat"...is checked, if not, check it
Check the circle next to "Hear voice chat from avatar position"
Click OK and close preferences
When someone has voice enabled they'll have a small white dot above their head..when they speak you'll see green bars coming from the dot.
Now on the bottom right of screen you should see a talk button with a very small lock next to the T. That will turn on your mic so others can hear you. It's very important to mute yourself when not talking so that your background noise doesn't kill everyones ears.
Click the little button with the chat bubbles next to the talk button and a window will pop up with the names of everyone who has voice enabled.
Select each individual person and use the volumn bar at bottom of popup window to turn them up or down as needed. (to freeze the names and keep them from bouncing around...click the word "name" above the names.)
You can now hear and talk. (if you have a mic)
