Talking

Informal talk between people is the most basic and personal way of exchanging ideas.

Two or more people get together and discuss whatever topics they like. What people talk about depends on what ideas they hold. The vast majority of conversation is about everyday matters of seemingly small signifigance, but even the most practical conversation can be influenced by the ideas of the speakers. This is the ultimate way of idea sharing, but it requires that the conversationalists have the ideas to spread them one-to-one, whereas media is capable of amplifying one message to thousands.

My top 3 skills are 1. Learning, 2. Doing and 3. Talking. Talking is the ultimate medium. What could I possibly hope to communicate through artificial media messages if I could not better articulate it in person by talking about it with people? And what could I hope to learn from other people unless I talk with them and listen empathically to gain understanding of what they have to say? I find that most of the best ideas for EmpowerThyself have arisen in conversations with people when we ask questions of each other and come up with answers out of the blue as though we already knew what they would be before we even knew what the question was.

I think anyone who wants to communicate things in the world through media should first practice talking about their ideas with as many different kinds of people as possible. This is the surest way to improve your communications and learn from responses.
