Taunting

Insulting and angering an opponent can inspire them to do something reckless and foolish to you. Taunting is also used to vilify an opponent or criticize an idea.

In many places, throwing the first punch carries legal consequences. Succumbing to taunting and starting a fight can get you in a lot more trouble.

Taunting is rarely the best way to influence someone, however, as it tends to offend the target and at best amuses those who already agree. Taunting is earnestly adversarial humor. Giving people flak is part of the propaganda system.

Charisma Factor

Charisma factors into taunting chances.

Taunting chances are opposed by the target’s willpower chance.

If the taunt succeeds, the target becomes enraged at the taunter and suffers a penaly to dodging equal to the margin of success.

For example, if a taunt scores 80% and the Willpower 60%, the target suffers a –20% dodging chance. Taunting takes 1 or more seconds and you can sustain a taunt longer to increase the chances by 1% per additional second.

Just Kidding Around

You can taunt someone friendly with a joking taunt that is more likely to entertain than enrage them.
