Cross Platform Accessibility
a mission (something you can do) posted by cidviscous Sun, 2007-09-30 16:25 Tags:Granted, this is certainly not something that should take priority over our current projects, but the other day it occured to me that our site is not very friendly to cross platform browsing. Specifically, we need to eventually work on making the site more accessible to mobile browsers (cellphones, pdas, etc.) and the Nintendo Wii. Concern should also be given to testing the site on various browser/operating system combinations to ensure functionality and accessibility.
By working to be the most reachable to the widest variety of possible users, we increase the reach of our message and the potential for usability in various circumstances (e.g. if the only connectivity you have is a cell phone, you can still use the site).
I'm still fairly new to drupal, but I would imagine that there is a way to set up different menu/presentation modules based on user-agent strings of client requests. If drupal does not facilitate this directly, it should be possible to redirect users to alternative portal pages from the server itself.
Again, I would like to stress that this is _not_ a critical update, and I only list it here now to get feedback, provoke thought, (and make sure I don't forget about it). Lemme know what you think.
