Texting is the vernacular term for sending an SMS message.

SMS(short message service) messaging is a powerful form of communications because you can send a simple silent message to all your contacts very quickly and easily. It has played an instrumental role in a number of disruptive world events.

Mass texting entire groups can spread the word about something quickly.

The text message encouraged "Aussies" to take revenge against "Lebs and Wogs", and said "Bring your mates and let's show them that this is our beach and they are never welcome". Several major riots and insurrections have been SMS enabled

  • Citizens in Spain used texting to counter government spin claiming that Basques were responsible for a terrorist attack and catapulted the opposition party to an upset electoral victory
  • Citizens in Ukraine used it to coordinate a recount campaign called the Orange Revolution that won
