Death is the end, we can live on in spirit only through the work we have done before we died.  That is our legacy, and what we can leave the world to help future generations in our stead.

The most important thing to emphasize here is authenticity and genuine choice.  Be whoever you want, just make sure you are the one who is doing the thinking.

Very few people atually want to be apathetic, it seems more like a condition, a disease that can afflict us all and cloud our judgment.

On some ideas I would describe myself as a deeply spiritual non-believer.  I do not believe in any God, but I do not necessarily begrudge my neighbours that do, nor am I ignorant about their beliefs.  Quite the contrary.  I am a man so designed as to be unable to believe, but am nevertheless also designed to be utterly enchanted by religion and the philosophy of it.

I am a philosophy student.  One day, I will be able to call myself a philosopher.  It s my dream occupation.

I practicaly hoard knowledge, often buying books I may never read just becaue the subject matter sounds interesting and book is dirt cheap.  I like to think that I will read all of them eventually, but really I just hate to see an idea die or be passed over.  I think that every idea (philosophical, scientific, sociological, and religious) is worth my time and consideration.  I may not agree with it, or even understand it, but I always like to try.

I am philo-sophia, a lover of knowledge.

I could not honestly describe myself as a religious person.  I do not hold to any specific set of religious ideas or beliefs, but I have tried several times in the past, and will continue to do so in the future.  I really enjoy religion, I like discussing these subjects with religious people, I love religious documentaries and programs.  Even when I don't agree with them and think that they are blatantly misreading or misrepresenting another proposition, it still facinates me.  My life is, and I think will always be, unseparable from religious ideas.

I prefer to describe my relationship to religion as a spiritual one, rather than a philosophical one.  Philosophy entails a kind of academic distance that I am not entirely comfortable with.  I would rather share in religious rituals and create a discourse with religious people than read about them from a book.  I would rather study and recite and memorize their holy books than criticize them from afar.  I would rather religious ideas become apart of my life rather than a subject of me studies.  I meditate, and if I found the right prayers, I would pray.  The only difference between myself and the true believer, is that I would not pray to a deity, but rather to reaffirm my own secular beliefs and faith in humanity.

Throughout my life, I have received two pieces of advice from most of the people that I respect and love.  One is to never grow old, and the other is to find what you love and commit your life to it, to get paid to live your dream.

This is why I continue to study philosophy and religious studies.  I have found that these are my passions, and I want to be able to be paid for writing about them.  I want to write books about the subject and contribute something to the sum of human wisdom.

I am going to be a philosopher, because that is my dream, and life is made all the more sweeter by striving for it.

It is advice that I would give everyone, and it gets at the essence of Empowerment.

The lives of those who came before us serve as platforms for our own lives.  Be they ativists or those who suffered grave injusties, their memories give us strength and courage.  By reflecting on their lives we know that not only is change possible but that it is of utmost importance to ourselves and others.

If you need bullshit, I can give it.  Spending 4+ years having to write about philosophical arguments and concepts, and defending them from critiques has given me the skill to write a decent essay that follows a coherent format.  I have turned a stream of consciousness into A material, and can reformulate and paraphrase other philosophers arguments in my own words to acheive understanding.  I can also make it sound like I know what I'm talking about.  At least, I think I can.

I have many quotes noted in many books, but no mind to remember them.  Many, many, many people have said what I believe in far more poetic and concise ways.  It would be great to harness that power so as to explain my position with wit and candour.  And to sound smart.  Being smart is sexy.

Sleeping Awake

The contrast between sleeping and dreaming and waking and doing is one made by many philosophers, and I think it is a very powerful analogy.  It is I think especially useful to the Empowerment.  Those who are empowered are awake those who are apathetic are merely dreaming.

If Christ had been dismembered like William Wallace, would the resurrection take longer?

Surfacing after a bit of emotional turmoil.

I've missed this place.

Really.

Hoping for not another false starter.

Splinter in Your Mind- An Introduction

(related to The Gap idea)

(needs more content, actual 'question' at the end is inaccurate)

“Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. Like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.”

—Morpheus, The Matrix

You are looking for an answer to a question you cannot quite fathom. It is a problem that is starting to influence the way you see the world, your habits, your work, and your life. Perhaps it is something that has plagued you since before you could remember. You may even have a name for it:

  • Disillusionment.
  • Angst.
  • Existential crisis.
  • Mid-life crisis.
  • Disenchantment.

Whatever you call it, it is troubling you, and it will not go away. You might have been tempted to push it away, to drown it out and ignore it so that you may get on with your day, so that you may meet your quota, so that you may live your life. But you have made it this far; so let us assume that you have not ignored this splinter in your mind.

Let us instead tell you why you are here. You are here because you know that the world is not meant to be this way. You look around and you see immorality, deceit, lies, injustice, tampering, laziness, sin, godlessness, vice, corruption, consumption, whatever. The world you see is wrong, it is skewed, it does not fit what you think the world should be. But you have accepted it because you keep expecting it to get better, you keep expecting to wake up, you expect everyone to wake up and really, truly see what is happening in this world.

The truth is that you are awake, but you cannot make sense of what you see. You are no longer dreaming, perhaps you never were. You no longer see the world as it is being presented, you do not see the same thing everyone else sees. You are looking beyond the white-picket fences, beyond what has been put in front of us day after day. You are looking beyond how we are told to look at the world to how the world truly is, and it is flawed.

The question is, “Why is the world like this, and what can I do to change it?”
