I strongly agree that I can be in control of my own feelings and emotions, and for this reason I tend to analyze why I feel the way I do, and if I don't feel how I wish I did, I simply think about it logically and change it! Permeability and mutability in mental states and feelings, woo!

I believe that everyone has the same potential to be productive, but that some people are just unexperienced at it and unmotivated to do more. If everyone did little things they wanted to see done (like less food in the dumpsters and more in people's homes, military contractors out of the city, more education for prisoners), we'd all be a lot better off. I'm not saying that it would work with all our ideologies clashing, it we all worked super hard to create revolutions, but I think it's generally a good idea. It's got good purpose behind it, which is something important to me.

One funny thing once said to me on this topic was:

Are you anti-life or are you pro-death?

It threw me for a spin, because I realzed, when it comes down to it, if the life my embyo or fetus, I am fully willing to take its life. If we're talking about an unwanted pregnancy of mine, I am anti-life and pro-death.

To me, a fetus is like a leech or parasite. It's not doing any good for me, I don't want it, I won't later want it, and I didn't ask for it. When a pregnancy is unplanned and unwanted, there is no reason for moral women not to get abortions. In cases of rape or unwanted pregnancies, ideally, abortion always needs to be an option!

When it boils down to it, I just believe that the rights of actual humans take precidence over the rights of potential humans.

-large number of people to occupy trees so some can leave without leaving trees vulnerable to attack

-support network to bring supplies and to alert of news of treesit progress, to and from the media

-constructions of support systems, treehouses, pulley annd harness systems and rope ladders and swings

Working through pain vs. being a wussyBelief

I believe that if you keep on working though times you are in physical or mental pain, it sets a good standard for yourself so you are able to know that pain shouldn't stop you from functioning well. I think a lot of it comes down to combatting wussiness- if you always give up and stop when you encounter a certain level of pain, your threshold doesn't get higher, and so when a more challenging obstacle arises, you're less capable of dealing with it. For example, if you break down and get self-defeating when someone tells you a painful truth about how you're acting towards others, you won't sit with that pain and learn to suck it up, deal with it, and use it as a way to better yourself. I also feel this way about sickness- if you take the day off, sit around, and mope every time you get a bad, but temporary cold, when you do get a more serious type of sickness, you'll just surrender to feeling powerless over sickness, and it will take much longer to get better than if you had trained yourself to suck up pain and keep working.

I think prisoner support is very important.  I think that it's important to break out of that common mindset that everyone who is in prison is dangerous and deserves to be there. Yes, some people in prison have done very unethical things, but many have done things that I consider to be illegal but not unethical. I think that rehabilitation, though it is much more expensive, is the only real solution sometimes and that it doesn't usually do much good to lock up prisoners as if they were wild cats threatening to maul civilization.

Most of my prisoner support work is related to prisoners. I don't endorse or support the action of firebombing car lots, blowing up logging companies, etc, but I do feel that all people have rights and ought to be treated with a certain level of respect and kindness, regardless of how they treat property. People who mistreat other humans are a different case and can be looked at much more cautiously. However, I think that the amount of people being send to prisons for political crimes is completely out of line, and that we need to support people who have been jailed because of more radical green-crimes. I think that some mediums work better than others, and so I often don't agree with the prisoners on the necessity of an action, but I do feel that it's dehumanizing to put someone in a cage for anything, and especially not fair when the crime, if not political, would just be considered be property distruction, not terrorism. Whether or not a prisoner has acted ethically in the past, I think it's still important to write to them and let them know that people out there realize the sentencing isn't fair and that they're being kept in peoples' thoughts.

There are definitly huge gaps in humans' technology worldwide, and this does cause seperation between people. The divide creates all sorts of things, like animosity and ill-feelings, especially between parties that have tech and choose not to use it, and groups who take advantage of it. When creating any sort of large scale philo of life and how to GTD, you've got to consider that we've got a major technological divide not only overseas but in the US.

I prefer the gift economy over money (on a small society level) for a few reasons:

-people can still generally get what they need

-less greed: the haves aren't lusty over useless products

-advancement of goods for people, not for profit

-less division of people over economic/social class

-more community-building in the sharing of creations/things made

-less people exploited in monetary affairs (whether it is the consumer or producer)

You know, I grew up a very devout Christian, but I am certainly not buying it anymore. Having less false ideas is always a plus too.

I feel like this is a complex that distances people. When people get all uppity about their status as radicals, they are putting down others who aren't as radical as them and people who are unsure what to think of radicalism.

The best way to solve this is to make it into a joke! Whenever someone starts bragging about being more radical than another individual or group, such as saying their house is "higher profile" or that they're getting more radical things done, verbally award them anarchopoints. Sarcastically say, "100 Anarchopoints for you! You are so radical! You're such an anarcho-radical-state-smasher anarchist!". It takes all the fun out of it for them so everyone else can just get on with their productive business!

While I agree that abstinence from drinking/drugs can be a great choice, I'm skeptical about how impacting it can really be to society if it's confined to a "scene" like it is now. I also don't like belief/action systems that require me to make strict rules about how I am going to live on a day to day basis- to me, it's good enough to just not drink, and not need to put a label or theory on it.

I think it exists way more that people think it does. While some of the assumptions made about bisexuals may sometimes be true, I think there are so many committed, loving, open bisexuals that this is a harmful belief. I hear it a lot in college and high school settings- whenever two girls kiss (especially if they're drunk or having fun at a party), men will make fun of them and say things like, they're just trying to turn us on, and that they're just slutty straight girls. I think many people have the attitude that bisexuals are slutty or unparticular about who they date, and that is a really rude assumption. I think it's harmful that comments about what bisexuals want, like, or need are coming from people who are not them and don't necessarily even know any open bisexals. Likewise, some reality shows (like Tilla Tequilla, where a bi woman takes a bunch of women and men on dates and chooses one to date/marry, but has the woman she picks turn out to be a "fake lesbian") stereotype bisexual women as slutty. Another harmful thing is that many people seem to see the issue of queerness as black or white, especially for men. People either assume that if a man is with a woman, he is straight, and if he's with a man, that he's gay, but it often doesn't even cross their mind that he could be bisexual.

I still am not sure where I stand on polyamory. I really like the idea that people don't have to repress their feelings for each other (based on the common idea that if you're in a relationship, you can't hit on or sleep with anyone else) and can love more freely in that way.

Maybe one of the reasons I'm not sure where I stand on poly is that it didn't work out perfectly for me. Nothing in life ever works out perfectly, but the thing about polyamory that really threw me for a spin was not knowing if everyone involved had good communication and were talking openly about the relationships. I'm not feeling eloquent right now, but I want to express that everything in a polyamorous relationship can feel fine, until one day you all realize that x wasn't said like it sould have been, or x wasn't done as it should have or could have.

I think that polyamory has a really great potential for working out if everyone involved wants it to work out. Poly will never work if people use it as an excuse to mindlessly sleep with multiple people at once, but will only work if the people involved are partaking because they want a new way of being romantic and relating to their lovers. Polyamory can't be used as a front for cheating, and I've discovered that if it is, everyone is left much more devestated that they thought was possible for them. Poly is based on consent, and until everyone in the relationship learns what that is and how to put focus on it, there will not be a healthy relationship.

I'm also much more in favor of loose polyfidelity over just plain polyamory. Polyfidelity means some sort of accountability, where everyone can be with multiple partners if that's what they need, but that it doesn't turn into some sort of orgy. Polyamory can mean to some that you can be with whoever, whenever, however. Polyfidlity seems to refine it and say, hey, you can be with another person, but only that other person unless we talk and you let me know that there's someone else involved. Polyfid is a way that partners can also feel a lot safer about STDs- when you're in some sort of webbed love connection to multiple people, you want to know that everyone's been tested or using condoms or whatever necessary so you all wouldn't be affected by one person's STD.

I don't think I'm ready to settle down into one real relationship right now, and my inabiltity to pinpoint why is agitating. Ever since I was a kid I've had crushes on a whole bunch of people at once, and I still do, but this doesn't mean I'm polyamorous by nature, I think. I want to find out for myself whether I want polyamory so I can express these feelings to multiple of those crushes, or if it's just some way I'm using to let myself not get too attached to any one person and risk being heartbroken. Polyamory is never a good solution to problems that are already there, like the inability to commit or having iffy self-esteem.

In general, I have a lot more praises than complaints on polyamory as a concept. I think I might want to experience this again to figure out if it's what I want and what I can do well with, but it's difficult because I also can't just get into two relationships so easily- many people have too much jealousy or hesitations to want to even try polyamory out.

The hardest part of polyamory is communication, and when there are 3+ people all involved that closely in each other's lives, evry little tension seems magnified. I really respect people who can sustain healthy polyamorous relationships since it seems like it takes much more time, talking, and acceptance than most people are willing to give.

I believe in switching things up and trying to live spontaneously and in wacky ways that confuse and awe people. I've never heard of the phrase "guerilla surrealism" and I don't agree that things I've never seen should exist more. I do think that humans should try harder to live with less patterns and that it's always nice to do atleast one irresponsible, spontaneous, illegal, or unintelligent thing every day, just to remind ourselfves that life doesn't have to be so rigid and strict on what we do and do not allow ourselves to think or do.

I don't believe in a spiritual or physical life after death, but I do believe that actions ripple into actions, and in some crazy way, I'm being affected by the beliefs and actions of other Santa Barbara activists decades ago, and what they did then has created a series of events that lead up to the immediate past and the present! In some ways, the activism I'm currently doing may inspire someone in a few years, who will inspire someone else; we're all a chain of resistance history that keeps growing longer and longer as time goes on. It's a really refreshing and beautiful thought.

How do I post an event?

I wanted to post the event dates for the Bored of UC Regents convergence in July and Think Outside the Bomb convergence this Aug.

What should I do for my birthday?

Tags:
I have a pretty important birthday coming up and I was wondering if anyone had any fun ideas of things to do with large groups of people (possibly at night). I could have a party in the dumpster, but we had one half a year ago and I don't want to wear out the idea. I could do something boring like have a party and buy a cake and eat it, but I was looking for creativity. Give me some ideas; nothing is too wild. An ex of mine already suggested a mass orgy on the steps of the police station, but I both don't know the legal status of that or their motives in suggesting it! Ideas for an awesome day/nite for a really nutty adventurous kid?

What ever happened to the gold stars count?

It used to be in the lower part of the far left light blue column. It listed the top posters on empowerment and it was fun to look and see who'd been on the site a lot lately. Where'd it go?

Drupal is not easy

Objective: to build myself a website using drupal

I am on week 2, about hour 5, and I currently have an opening page in the editing stage, and a menu with broken links to pages that aren't working.

This really isn't as easy as Alex made it sound.

Alex, you are a genious to be able to build this really complex Mother-Of-All-Websites.

I surrender.  I am not very smart. I need a lot of help to build my site!

Tune in for the snail-slow progress at www.artartrevolution.com
