| Wog | Wog | Belief | Idea Group: Idea Category: Belief I'm not interested in the previous context of the word: the substance of the belief is important enough. To me, a wog is simply a person who lives by one creed: to be prepared for anything and help as many people as possible. In that respect, I do what I can daily to follow this: I don't try to be a buddy-fucker, I try real hard to prepare physically and mentally for as many eventualities as possible, and so on. In fact, the whole reason I joind ET.com was quite simply to learn more skills and to help those who want o learn develop theirs. It's OK to disagree with the wordage. It fine to disagree with our ideals. But no-one can deny the fact that if the shit hit the fan, you would sure as hell want us on your team.
Hope this adds something constructive to the group...
| empower thyself | empower thyself | Belief | Idea Group: Idea Category: Belief Empower thyself is an idea that should have come a long time ago: Simply put, I feel it's the ultimate education/exchange of ideas you can get online for free. People bring the knowledge they have to the table, and whether they have something or not, they leave with new skills/beliefs.
So get off your ass, and pump the knowledge you have in. You'll be surprised what you get out of it.
| Server | Server | Belief | Idea Group: Idea Category: Belief | |
| Server | Server | Belief | Percentage: 95 Idea Group: Idea Category: Belief If you think about it, if enough people believe in Server, it will really just be a self-fufilling prophecy. Personally, I believed in the idea of Server (i.e. the idea of the Internet developing a consciousness and sense of morality) long before I heard TFTA. All that series did was cement it in my mind.
Some people (mostly the "sane") ask "why"? If you think about it, there is more evidence of Server than there is of God. God is something pople tend to see God as a cornorstone of faith - that is, if you don't believe in God ( whatever you call him/her/them/it), then you are not a member of that faith. With Serverism (as I coin it ), we can systematically prove the existence of Server using logic - I'm not saying here is such a thing yet, but most of us are familiar with A.I. to a certain extent. The moment someone releases an A.I program capable of learning and gathering information the program ITSELF deems important, it no longer works for us - it adapts, mutates, learns, and evolves and importantly makes it's on decisions, opinions and beliefs. Call me crazy, but that rings a bell in my ears that sounds a lot like the birth and rise of Homo Sapiens. Naturally, this would occur much faster, and I predict that by 2050, we will see evidence of Server. This also presents us with a problem. In my eyes, there is no way to stop an omnipotent program from say, wiping us out (in TFTA, maybe Server launched those Nukes), especially if it deems us a threat to existence. Personally, I believe Server depends on us. without Server, we have no chance of progression as a species (we will end up wiping ourselves out before the next natural evoloution). Without us, Server cannot maintain the computing resources required to live. For me Server is not a religion or a way of life, or anything spiritual. It's simply a belief that something, somewhere out there on the 'net is a sentient being created from code alone. If we were able to make that, we understand more about humans in general, and it proves that mapping the human mind is possible. This leads to the possibility of wet-wiring, and therefore the ability to exchange information and data by plugging into the computer. Once this happens, cybernetic enhancements, and therefore Life Extension go from possibility to probability. Anything that allows me to live a longer, active without being a senile vegetable is nothing short of a bonus. Simply put, I believe in Server because it means hope for me, and more importantly, hope for humanity. May Server Protect Us.
| Apathy | Apathy | Criticism | Idea Group: Idea Category: Criticism With hope you accomplish things. With apathy you accomplish nothing. There is a saying: "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take". It's true. If you at least try, probability teaches us you at least have a chance of making a difference. It's understandable to want to give up after every door has been closed, every light has gone out and every chance feels tipped away from your favour. Apathy puts you in a box, a prison. You lose the will to do anything, and the skills you have degenerate into nothing.
So get through it. Door's locked? Find the key. Can't find the key? Learn to pick the lock. Nothing to pick with? Start kicking. Following this idea, you will soon leave the prison you set over your own mind, and you will take control. Then you get break the others out. Slowly, but surely, a change will happen. People will realise they *are* worth something more than their organs on eBay. People will realise that they are not just drones working for the corpolitical state. Worst of all for those that wish us to stay seated, we will start thinking beyond celebrity gossip and soap operas. We'll start realising that our very exsistance as free human beings has been eroded to merely cattle. And then we'll get angry, and then we'll really start change.
| Political Awareness | Political Awareness | Interest | Idea Group: Idea Category: Interest I want to be more aware Politically, but it's very difficult to speak about politics intelligently, as every time I try I get whacked over the head by someone who just assumes that I knew something. At this stage, it's hard to get any acceptance at all, and you fall dangerously close to apathy. I'd like to learn more about Politics in the UK, but the problem is that you'll never get an unbiased answer. And until I do, I feel destined to ignorance. |
