My Blog

my experience with the youth summit, 2007

A bittersweet experience of learning and pain

so for the past six months I have been meeting with a group on a weekly basis to plan the youth summit 2007 in SB, i got into it through another Youth program called A.D.A.P. teen coalition, which stands for the alcohol and drug abuse prevention teen coalition. anyways, the point of the youth summit is to get together around a hundred kids that are involved with other youth programs like FNL, FLA, mentoring associations and the like, basically inviting the kids, ahem excuse me, youth, er teens, whatever, and giving them a simple training course, all the while having fun, with a youth summit, which is basically like the DFA camp but in a miniaturized schedule over one day only and while maintaining a very area specifically customized selection of programs, or Work shops. anyways, guess who gets to plan all this fun stuff for all these kids?! that's right more kids, like me and Bryce.

but the learning doesn't just stop at the attendees, I'm learned a lot too. just today I had my first real on Camera interview. and it was horrifying, I could tell that I was doing everything wrong, I forgot half of what I was supposed to know about the summit that's happening this weekend and on top of that my friend called me on my cell right in the middle of it.

the things I learned about interviews. can be summed up pretty simply.

1. never ever leave your phone on. nothing is more embarrassing than having to rip your phone apart just to make it shut up.

2. you're in no total rush to get out what you're saying, so go as slow as you have to to make sense. jumbled words suck. and there's a higher chance that you'll be miss understood.

3. the person asking you your questions is your friend, unless they're not. they'll help you with anything you need, all you have to do is ask, preferably not on camera. that is unless they're evil and mean and kill puppies without a thought to it. then you're screwed.

4. do whatever it takes to remain calm. slap yourself, get a splash of cold water, whatever, just keep it cool.

5. last but certainly not least. STUDY, I can not stress this enough, if you don't remember what the hell you're talking about you look like an idiot and you only make whatever you're representing worse.like me. it sucks.

so keep all these things in mind and after you've studied hard answer their questions in confidence.

FIX THE LOGIN PROBLEMS!

it would be nice if you could fix the login problems sometime in the near future, i dont know about you but i had to login a good 5 times to even attempt to post this blog, fix the fucking problem so i can actually do somthing. remove the logout module or somthing similar to fix the problem

drupal rocks

The userfriendliness of drupal never ceases to amaze me, editing links is as easy as right clicking and changing the destination and clicking submit. editing anything is easy with a simple click to the edit tab, i wish everyone used Drupal, it really is superior to sites like myspace where you have to go to a diffent page to edit something instead of just clicking a tab.
