Not about everything always being perfect, but about understanding the rules of it and noticing violations and peculiarities in my own expression and others'. I've done copyediting for professors, authors, newspapers, and coursewriters, and done a fair share of professional writing myself.
I try to use correct (prescribed) grammar in most cases, but I acknowledge some rules that shouldn't be strictly adhered to* and others that I disagree with and deliberately contradict.
* Or do I acknowledge some rules to which one should not strictly adhere? See, not enough ambiguity is introduced by the dangling preposition to justify muddling up the sentence to avoid it. | |
